What is an EP?

Before undertaking the planning and production of a EP I realised I needed to learn and understand the conventions and requirements for fitting this category of music release / product, the research sources I used are on the right, and my findings and conclusions are on the left, links are videos are openable or playable

- An EP; standing for Extended Play is a middle ground between a full album (LP; Long Play) and a Single, typically containing 4-6 songs and coming in at a running time of at least 10 minutes and no more then 30 minutes, these are of course not hard and fast rules but what I have found to be the convention within Music

- An EP can be a useful style of release in allowing for more diversity and different types of tracks then the 1 + a B side typically found when producing and releasing a single, but without the workload and time needed to produce a full album

- A EP is a suitable choice for this project based on length, aspiring to do more then produce a couple of songs, and a chance to develop and put in to practice different performance and production skills and tools

- Considering that I am still finding my purpose as a musician and what area I want to pursue (Production, Performance, Songwriting etc) A EP is a suitable way to experience and develop skills in multiple areas.
